The Other Dangers
More than 20,000 workers are injured in road construction work zones each year, due to contact with objects or equipment; slips, trips or falls; overexertion, transportation incidents and exposure to harmful substances or environments. This article provides a list of six tips to improve work zone safety for construction workers. The suggestions include: do not stand behind trucks, do not become complacent when working around traffic; do not sit on protective barriers; keep communication lines open; be aware of machinery and equipment; and adjust lighting and barriers at night to improve driver and worker visibility.
