Green Corridors in European Surface Freight Logistics and the SuperGreen Project
“Green corridors” is an European Union (EU) concept introduced in 2007 that aims at developing integrated, efficient and environmentally friendly transportation of freight between major hubs and by relative long distances. SuperGreen is a project co-financed by the European Commission to assist in further defining and developing the green corridor concept. A central activity of the project is the development of a corridor benchmarking methodology using a set of Key Performance Indicators that are suitable for monitoring the sustainable development goals of the European Union. The purpose of this paper is to present the SuperGreen project and the results achieved so far.
