Spatial Exploration of Effective Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Location
The number of electric vehicles and related infrastructure (in particular chargers) are expected to increase significantly in the near future. Models and guidelines for the optimum location of the electric vehicles infrastructure are not well addressed in the current literature and this research aims to provide some insight towards this direction. A method for the optimal location of charging stations is presented and applied to the municipality of Kalamaria in Thessaloniki, Greece. The method is based on the multi-criteria analysis (MCA) technique. A number of variables, such as the population characteristics, points of interest and the characteristics of the electric utility grid around the candidate positions, are weighted in order to produce a single spatial map to support the decision-makers.
