Development of Human Machine Interface for Platoon Systems - Construction and Acceptance of HMI
This paper describes examination of information on the inside and outside of vehicles and human machine interface (HMI) of platoon systems. This platoon systems consists of trucks of autonomous driving, and aims at CO2 emission reduction and energy saving. The proposed HMI takes into consideration the safety of platoon systems, and the sense of security of a driver. The authors have developed a fundamental HMI for confirmation of a platoon situation, and unusual detection. As HMI for a platoon system, they propose showing information inside and outside vehicles, and the contents are described. HMI is constructed and validity is verified by driving experiments at the early stage. The system configuration and display of HMI are improved based on these. This paper describes support of platoon making, and the construction of HMI towards actual use. Furthermore, verification of the acceptance as HMI of the platoon system by professional drivers is performed through the actual test-riding and questionnaire.
