Development of DSSS Left-Turn Collision Prevention Support System
The Universal Traffic Management Society of Japan (UTMS Japan) is conducting R&D of the Driving Safety Support System (DSSS) with vehicle-infrastructure communication. As one of its initiatives, the UTMS is developing a left-turn collision avoidance information provision system to help prevent collisions with motorcycle riders, who are vulnerable road users. An experimental system was installed in an ordinary intersection in Tokyo with a view to actual deployment of such systems on actual roads. Results of operational tests using the overall roadside system and in-vehicle system will be used to evaluate effectiveness and extract issues related to actual deployment.
