High modulus bituminous materials in Chile
The high modulus asphalts (HMAs) increase the resistance capacity of all bituminous layers and the resistance in the time. The HMAs had a high development in France in the middle of the 90s. The good behaviors and their undeniable advantagesin optimization of road structures are now accepted. In this context the first rutting resistant and shear resistant HMA concretes are currently developing in Chile to meet the new market demands. To develop these new generation asphalt concretes in the country regarding the new studied properties, study methods more complete than the Marshall method have been created in France by the IFSTTAR (Institut français des sciences et technologies des transports, de l'aménagement et des réseaux) and by the SHRP (Strategic Highway Research Program) in the USA. In Chile the French group Eurovia developed and elaborated by its local subsidiary the method MCDC “Metodo Combinado de Diseño y Comportamiento”.
