Restriping Highways and County Roads in Tennessee
RoadSafe Traffic Systems provides traffic safety services and products as well as pavement marking services throughout the country. This article profiles RoadSafe's recent work in Tennessee, which involved the restriping of over 3,600 lane miles of highways and county roads, spanning 45 counties. The author examines the components of RoadSafe's performance-based contract, which included requirements to meet state specifications of reflectivity. The contract additionally required the completion of several pay items such as pre-formed plastic, school symbols, thermoplastic, turn arrows and stop bars. The article also discusses the particular planning that was needed to complete work on the expressways, which was done at night because of the additional traffic control requirements.
