Challenges for Stockholm‐Arlanda Airport as Future Airport – Enabling Inter‐Modal Passenger‐Centred Solutions for a Sustainable Door‐to‐Door Travel
Airports are important transportation hubs in the modern society. Historically, airports have been designed based on the single focus of the airport as logistic infrastructure, transporting people and goods. Strong pressure is, however, put upon airports in developing towards a “commercial zone”, being competitive in operations excellence, and driving a proactive and environmental sustainability agenda. Stockholm-Arlanda, among other airports, is to be self-financed based on diverse commercial engagements. Digital technology, enabling efficient operations and supporting passengers in being prepared throughout the door-to-door process, do now challenge the design of airports.
