REQUIREMENTS OF FROST BLANKET COURSES AND IMPROVEMENTS IN THEIR BEARING CAPACITY AND TESTING OF FROST BLANKET GRAVEL AND AGGREGATES FOR FROST PROTECTION /GERMAN/

THE REQUIREMENTS DRAWN UP IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE ZTVE-ST 65 ARE DISCUSSED. IT IS POINTED OUT THAT THE SO-CALLED "ELASTICITY VALUE" OR "BEARING CAPACITY VALUE" IS ONLY A MEASURE FOR THE VERTICAL SURFACE DEFORMATION OF A LAYERED STRUCTURE AT THE CENTER OF AN EVEN, CYLINDRICAL LOAD. IT WOULD THEREFORE BE BETTER TO REFER TO IT AS THE "DEFORMATION MEASURE". IT IS ALTO ESTABLISHED THAT THIS MEASURE OF DEFORMATION IS VERY DIFFICULT TO OBTAIN WITH GRAVELLY SAND LAYERS, AND THE AUTHOR THEREFORE RECOMMENDS A COMBINATION OF A LOWER LAYER OF GRAVELLY SAND AND A TOP LAYER OF UNBOUND, BROKEN AGGREGATE AS A FROST BLANKET COURSE WHICH WOULD BE MORE STABLE. /FG/RRL/
