Statistical analysis of the impact of policies on active transport in European cities
The goal of this paper is to contribute understanding of the impact of selected transport policies, such as investments in walking and cycling facilities (e.g., bike lanes and bike paths, pedestrian and low-speed zones, provision of city bikes bike sharing systems) on active transport (biking and walking). On a sample of European cities, we find a strong positive statistical association between the length of cycling infrastructure and the share of cycling and the negative correlation between the cycling infrastructure and the public transport share.
