From Eyesore to Icon
This article examines the reemergence of the parking garage as an architecturally stylist and elegant structure, meeting new demands from public and private developers. In cities around the country, newly-built artistic and exotic garages are emerging as community icons, attracting sightseers, photographers and event planners. This article explores a number of cutting-edge garage projects being completed in both large and small cities, and discusses challenges, such as high costs, being faced in those cities. It also looks at ways that the garages are being used to aid city revitalization efforts.
