Integrating asset management systems enhances shop productivity

The use of an automated program for asset management, a telematics platform and electronic vehicle inspection report system integrated with vehicle maintenance software, has enabled the City of Sacramento to better manage its fleet of vehicles by increasing productivity with smoother workflows, and streamlined diagnostics, lowering fuel consumption, and improving compliance. Due to the budget savings, layoffs have been avoided, and all replacement equipment is being budgeted to include the necessary hardware. In addition, drivers are able to see specific impacts of various behaviors through the monitoring system. Telematics devices installed in vehicles are able deliver real-time information to the shop's maintenance software in terms of vehicle location (using geographic information system), operating metrics and fault codes provided through the engine control unit.
