Manual for Traffic Control in Work Zones

This manual includes guidelines for traffic control in work zones by those performing survey, construction or maintenance work on New Jersey Turnpike Authority (NJTA) roadways. Work zones include all shoulder, lane, ramp or roadway closures. The manual provides information on work zone policies, such as, traffic permits, closure request process, and temporary traffic control devices; work zone operations, such as, speed reductions and variable message signs; and work zone procedures, such as, detours, lane shifts, and lane and shoulder closures. Appendix A includes traffic protection standard drawings; appendix B includes lane and shoulder closure tables.
