Further studies of the skid resistance of asphalt surfaces in their early life
This report presents the results of a study to explore the physical phenomena connected with the early life condition of new asphalt. Friction measurements were conducted on various in-service roads and trial sites to examine the development of skid resistance with traffic and time, to compare the early life impacts on different kinds of asphalt surfacings. The impact of temperature on skid resistance and the effects of gritting new asphalt surfaces were also explored.
