Detection of changes in pavement texture condition using high resolution 3D surface measurements: Research into pavement surface disintegration: Phase 2 - Task 2
A high resolution 3D surface imaging device was built to examine and collect data on pavement surfaces in varying stages of distress. This system could be used to detect surface disintegration at an earlier stage than the lower resolution traffic-speed surveys currently in use. Earlier detection of pavement surface changes would be particularly useful for maintaining thin surfacings which deteriorate at a faster rate than hot rolled asphalt.
