SOIL PROBLEMS AND SOIL BEHAVIOR

IT IS POSSIBLE AT THE PRESENT TIME TO DELINEATE REASONABLY WELL THE SOIL STABILITY PROBLEMS THAT OCCUR DURING EARTHQUAKES AND TO ILLUSTRATE THEM BY MEANS OF EXAMPLES FROM RECENT AND OLDER EARTHQUAKES. THE SIMILARITY OF TYPES OF SOIL INSTABILITY PROBLEMS ENCOUNTERED IN SUCH WIDELY SEPARATED LOCATIONS AS ALASKA, NIIGATA (JAPAN), AND CHILE ARE DISCUSSED AND SUMMARIZED IN A TABLE. /GA/
