Transport of Gas by Ship

Prijevoz plina pomorskim putem

Liquefied natural gas (LNG) is natural gas in liquid form obtained through the process of cooling for the purpose of easier transport. This gas takes up approximately 1/600th the volume of natural gas in gaseous state. For successful transport of liquefied natural gas it is necessary to build terminals for (re)loading liquefied natural gas. Such terminals apply very high safety standards regarding facilities, safety measures, working procedures, qualified personnel, necessary documentation and communication. Ships for transporting liquefied natural gas represent specialized and sophisticated seagoing vessels, specially constructed in order to comply with high safety standards. Because of their specific and specialized construction, these vessels have a very high price on the maritime market. The world market of natural and liquefied gas has significant impact on defining international gas networks. LNG terminals in the world represent strategic logistics points for distributing gas to the most developed countries in the world. The Republic of Croatia gives special attention to the research and consumption of gas. The LNG terminal which is planned in the Rijeka Bay area attracts a lot of attention in the Republic of Croatia as well as from the neighbouring countries.
