Costs of LNG Transport by Sea
Troskovi prijevoza LNG-a morskim pravcima
The paper discusses the transport costs of liquefied natural gas (LNG) by sea. The elements affecting the price of transporting this product by ship are well known and include: fuel price, daily consumption of fuel, crew wages and expenses regarding the maintenance of the vessel and the vessel’s equipment. Depending on the sailing route, the operation costs may include dues for passing the Panama Canal or the Suez Canal. The highest costs of shipping LNG from a load port are related to the size and type of vessel, number of vessels and the total amount of cargo that has to be transported. The calculation is based on the transport costs from the port of Murmansk to final import terminals. The port of Murmansk is potentially one of the Russia’s largest LNG load terminals.
