RAILROADS GO ALL OUT TO TIE UP WITH PORTS
The land- and minibridge concept, regarded as a whimsical notion but a couple of years ago, has burst into stark reality and caught many American and Canadian railroads short in rolling stock and materials handling equipment, but not in enthusiasm. Major railroads serving the West Coast and points East and South are scrambling to acquire additional gear and facelift existing operations to exploit a windfall owed to intermodalization--particularly traffic to and from the Far East.
