ROCK MECHANICS INVESTIGATIONS IN THE MONT BLANC TUNNEL

THE HIGHWAY THROUGH THE MONT BLANC TUNNEL WAS DRIVEN AT A DEPTH OFTEN EXCEEDING 1,500 M. VIOLENT ROCKBURSTS OCCURRED, AND A DENSE ROCK BOLTING WAS NECESSARY. ROCK MECHANICS INVESTIGATIONS WERE CARRIED OUT TO DETERMINE THE STATE OF STRESS IN THE ROCK MASS AND TO GAIN A BETTER UNDERSTANDING OF STRESS-RELIEVED PHENOMENA. /RRL(A)/
