STRESSES AND DISPLACEMENTS IN A ROCK MASS HAVING STRESS- DEPENDENT PROPERTIES

A NUMERICAL METHOD IS OUTLINED THAT CAN BE USED TO PREDICT THE STRESSES AND DISPLACEMENTS IN LOADED ROCK MASSES THAT HAVE EXTENSIVE JOINT SYSTEMS WITH A SPACING MUCH SMALLER THAN THE LOADED DIMENSION. THE PROPERTIES OF THE MATERIAL COMPOSING THE MASS ARE MADE TO DEPEND UPON STRESS LEVEL AND STRESS PATH ACCORDING TO THE BEHAVIOUR EXPERIMENTALLY OBSERVED IN SAMPLES OF GRANULAR MATERIAL. AN EXAMPLE SOLUTION, IN WHICH A CIRCULAR LOAD OF UNIFORM PRESSURE IS APPLIED TO A GRANULAR MASS, IS PRESENTED AND DISCUSSED. /RRL(A)/
