ABOUT THE ANISOTROPY OF SCHISTOSE ROCKS

IT IS NOTED THAT, IN THE EVOLUTION OF ROCK MECHANICS, MORE ATTENTION HAS BEEN PAID TO ROCK INELASTICITY THAN TO ITS ANISOTROPY. CONSIDERATIONS ARE PRESENTED ON THE ANISOTROPY OF SCHISTOSE ROCKS AND THE REASON FOR THIS ANISOTROPY IS DISCUSSED. IT IS CONCLUDED THAT THE RELEVANT CAUSE OF THE ANISOTROPY OF THESE ROCKS IS THE ACTUATION OF SCHISTOSITY PLANES AND NOT ANY PARTICULAR STRUCTURAL ARRANGEMENT OF THE ROCK MATERIALS BETWEEN THOSE PLANES. AN ANALOGICAL MODEL IS DEVELOPED FOR SCHISTOSE ROCKS, BASED ON THIS CONCEPT. EXAMPLES OF BEHAVIOR PECULIARITIES OF SCHISTOSE ROCKS ARE INTERPRETED USING THE ABOVE MODEL. ATTENTION IS CALLED TO THE NEED FOR A THOROUGH INVESTIGATION OF THE ROCK MECHANICS OF ANISOTROPIC ROCKS, ESPECIALLY SCHISTS. /LNEC/RRL/
