A GEOPHYSICAL STUDY OF LANDSLIDES /MECHANISMS OF LANDSLIDES/

IN GENERAL, THE FORM OF SOIL MASS MOVEMENT IS DIVIDED INTO FOUR TYPES, NAMELY: (1) SLIDE OF FLUID TYPE, (2) LAYER SLIDE TYPE, (3) PROTRUDING SLIDE TYPE OF AN INTERMEDIATE LAYER, AND (4) MULTI-SLIDE TYPE. IN ORDER TO INVESTIGATE THE MECHANISM OF SOIL MASS MOVEMENT, UNDERGROUND SOIL MASS MOVEMENT HAS BEEN ANALYZED BY USING INTERNAL STRAIN METERS. RESULTS FROM LABORATORY AND FIELD TESTS WERE FOUND TO BE IN AGREEMENT. ACCORDING TO THE RESULTS FROM THE ANALYSES OF THE INTERNAL STRAIN METER IN THE CASE OF LANDSLIDE AREAS, THERE ARE TWO SLIDE LAYERS WHICH DIFFER IN THE DIRECTION AND VELOCITY OF SOIL MASS MOVEMENT. IT IS NOT POSSIBLE TO ANALYZE THE STABILITY OF THE LANDSLIDE SLOPE FROM INFORMATION ABOUT THE DEPTH OF A SLIDE SURFACE. /RRL/
