CALCULATING THE FUNCTION OF A DRAINAGE LAYER

THE DRAINAGE LAYER FUNCTION IN THE CASE OF A CONSTANT UNIFORM SEEPAGE FLOW IS STUDIED. EQUATIONS ARE GIVEN FOR CALCULATING THE PROFILE OF THE FREE WATER-TABLE IN THE DRAINAGE LAYER, THE INDEPENDENT VARIABLES OF THE EQUATION BEING: BASIC SEEPAGE FLOW, COEFFICIENT OF IN-SITU PERMEABILITY OF THE DRAINAGE MATERIAL, SLOPE OF THE TRANSVERSE PROFILE, AND WIDTH OF THE DRAINAGE LAYER. THE INFLUENCE OF THE CAPILLARY FRINGE ON DRAINAGE IS TAKEN INTO ACCOUNT. THE MAXIMUM SEEPAGE FLOW WHICH CAN BE EVACUATED BY THE DRAINAGE LAYER IS CALCULATED AS A FUNCTION OF THE DIMENSIONS OF THE DRAINAGE LAYER, COEFFICIENT OF PERMEABILITY AND SLOPE OF TRANSVERSE PROFILE. THE FUNCTION OF THE DRAINAGE LAYER UNDER VARIABLE CONDITIONS WHEN THE SEEPAGE FLOW DECREASES IN TIME, IS ALSO ANALYZED. /RRL/
