THE RIDEABILITY OF NATURAL SOILS /IN GERMAN/

INVESTIGATIONS CARRIED OUT BY THE VERSUCHSANSTALT FUR WASSERBAU UND ERDBAU, UNIVERSITY OF ZURICH, INTO THE TRAFFICABILITY OF NATURAL SOILS INCLUDED STUDIES OF SOIL MECHANICS AND VEHICLE STRUCTURE. THE WES METHOD, WATERWAYS EXPERIMENT STATION, US ARMY, IS REGARDED AS MOST SUITABLE FOR PREDICTING THE TRAFFICABILITY OF A SOIL FOR PNEUMATIC TIRES AND TRACKED VEHICLES. MEASURING EQUIPMENT CONSIDERED INCLUDES THE ENGLISH PENETROMETER, WHICH SUPPLIES RESULTS QUICKLY, AND THE SLOWER BUT MORE ACCURATE CBR APPARATUS. FIFTY PASSES OF A VEHICLE OVER THE SAME TRACK ARE EQUATED WITH THE LOWEST BEARING CAPACITY OF THE SOIL. SOME RESULTS OBTAINED ON THE KLOTEN AND BRUGG TEST TRACKS ARE EVALUATED. /FG/RRL/
