UNIAXIAL REBOUND AND RECOMPRESSION OF SANDS

EMPIRICAL FORMULAS ARE SET UP FOR THE DEFORMATIONS OF SAND IN UNLOADING AND RELOADING IN A UNIAXIAL STATE OF DEFORMATION (THE OEDOMETER CASE). THE DEFORMATION OF A SAND SAMPLE SUBJECTED TO A GIVEN CHANGE IN STRESS IS PROBABLY INFLUENCED BY THE SAME FACTORS AS IN PRIMARY COMPRESSION, I.E. GRAIN SHAPE, GRAIN SIZE, GRAIN MATERIAL, AND VOID RATIO OF THE SAND. THE OEDOMETER TEST, REBOUND TEST AND RECOMPRESSION TESTS WERE CONDUCTED FOR EXAMINATION OF THE FORMULAS. THE TESTED FORMULA IS PROPOSED FOR DEFORMATIONS OF SAND AT UNIAXIAL REBOUND. A CORRESPONDING FORMULA IS PROPOSED FOR RECOMPRESSION.
