METHOD FOR MINIMUM VOID RATIO OF SAND

VARIOUS INVESTIGATORS HAVE USED VIBRATIONS FOR OBTAINING THE MAXIMUM DENSITY OR THE MINIMUM VOIDS RATIO OF SANDS, BUT NO STANDARD METHOD IS YET AVAILABLE. IN THE PRESENT INVESTIGATION THE EFFECT OF VIBRATION PARAMETERS, SIZE OF SAMPLES, AND GRAIN SIZE DISTRIBUTION ON THE COMPACTION ACHIEVED ARE DISCUSSED ON THE BASIS OF SERIES OF TESTS PERFORMED ON A HORZONTAL STEADY STATE VIBRATION TABLE ON FOUR DIFFERENT SANDS IN THREE DIFFERENT MOLDS. THE GRAIN SIZE OF THE SANDS VARIED FROM FINE TO VERY COARSE. BASED ON THIS STUDY A METHOD FOR OBTAINING THE MINIMUM VOID RATIO OF A SAND IS SUGGESTED. /AUTHOR/
