New Farm riverwalk replacement, Queensland

One of the most high profile and significant single losses during the January 2011 Brisbane floods was arguably the New Farm riverwalk floating walkway. Brisbane City Council quickly responded to assess the damage of this pedestrian and cyclist link, and undertook development of concept options for its replacement, followed by preliminary and detailed design. Arup has been Council’s lead consultant throughout each phase and at present is finalizing the detailed design phase, with construction expected to start early in 2013. This paper outlines the design process to re-instate this once popular and very busy commuter route for pedestrians and cyclists.
