A UNIVERSAL TRIAXIAL APPARATUS

A TRIAXIAL APPARATUS HAS BEEN DEVELOPED FOR THE STUDY OF THE BEHAVIOR OF SOILS IN SHEAR AND CONSOLIDATION. IT WILL APPLY, MEASURE AND CONTROL ALL THE THREE PRINCIPAL STRESSES AND STRAINS INDEPENDENTLY. SOME OF THE DEFECTS AND LIMITATIONS OF THE CONVENTIONAL TRIAXIAL APPARATUS HAVE BEEN ELIMINATED. THE APPARATUS IS SIMPLE, COMPACT AND VERSATILE FOR STUDYING THE PROPERTIES OF SOILS IN GREATER PERSPECTIVE. THE DESCRIPTION AND WORKING OF THE APPARATUS ARE GIVEN. IN ORDER TO SHOW PROPER WORKING OF THE APPARATUS AND RELIABILITY OF THE TEST RESULTS A FEW EXPERIMENTAL RESULTS OF UNCONSOLIDATED-UNDRAINED TESTS ON COMPACTED BEAS CLAY SUBJECTED TO AXIALLY SYMMETRICAL STRESSES AND PLANE STRAIN CONDITION, AND ALSO OF CONSOLIDATED-DRAINED TESTS ON SAND SUBJECTED TO AXIALLY SYMMETRICAL STRESSES, ARE PRESENTED. /AUTHOR/
