MICRO-WAVE MEASUREMENT OF MOISTURE CONTENT /IN RUSSIAN/

STUDIES CARRIED OUT IN THE USSR AND GREAT BRITAIN OF METHODS OF MEASURING MOISTURE CONTENT ARE DESCRIBED. THREE TYPES OF VERY HIGH FREQUENCY MEASURING APPARATUS DEVELOPED OUTSIDE THE USSR, THEIR MODE OF OPERATION AND PERFORMANCE ARE DISCUSSED; (1) THE APPARATUS DEVELOPED BY THE BRITISH FIRM AEI, (2) THE UNIPAN PRODUCED IN POLAND, AND (3) THE APPARATUS DESIGNED BY THE DUTCH FIRM PHILIPS. THE ADVANTAGES OF THE ULTRA-SHORT WAVE MOISTURE CONTENT MEASURING APPARATUS ARE EMPHASIZED. IT OFFERS THE POSSIBILITY OF MEASURING A VERY LARGE RANGE OF MOISTURE CONTENTS (FROM 0 TO 100 PER CENT) WITH A HIGH DEGREE OF ACCURACY, IT ENABLES MEASUREMENTS TO BE MADE WITHOUT CONTACT E.G. ON MATERIALS CARRIED ON A CONVEYOR BELT, AND IT MAKES IT POSSIBLE TO MEASURE LARGE QUANTITIES OF MATERIAL THUS PREVENTING RANDOM ERRORS WHICH CAN OCCUR WHEN MEASUREMENTS ARE MADE ON VERY SMALL SAMPLES. /LCPC/RRL/
