ENZYMATIC PRODUCTS CUT COSTS OF SOIL COMPACTION

AN ADDITIVE, ENZYMNES SA, THAT AIDS SOIL COMPACTION AND STABILIZATION IS REPORTED TO CUT COSTS OF COMPACTION ON DAMS , ROADS AND OTHER EARTH STRUCTURES. THE OVERALL EFFECT OF ADDING IT TO MIXING WATER IS TO SHIFT THE COMPACTION CURVE OF A TYPICAL SOIL UPWARD AND SLIGHTLY TO THE LEFT, FOR THE SAME COMPACTIVE EFFORT, ACCORDING TO THE PRODUCER, ENZYMATIC PRODUCTS DIVISION, MARBLEX OF CANADA, LTD. A LABORATORY TEST IN NEVADA ON A CLAYEY SILT SHOWED AN INCREASE OF MAXIMUM DRY DENSITY TO 122.2 LB. PER CU. FT. FROM 117 LB. PER CU. FOOT WHEN THE ADDITIVE WAS USED. WHEN COMPACTION WAS DONE 24 HOURS AFTER MIXING, THE MAXIMUM DRY DENSITY ROSE FROM 118 / WATER ONLY/ TO 124.2 LB. PER CU. FEET. TESTS RUN IN ARIZONA ON A DIFFERENT SOIL SHOWED A REDUCTION OF THE LIQUID LIMIT FROM 30 TO 25 AND THE PLASTICITY INDEX FROM 15 TO 10 WITH THE ADDITION AT A RATE OF 1.5 GAL. OF THE ADDITIVE PER 1,000 GAL. OF WATER.
