SLOPE STABILITY CALCULATIONS BY MEANS OF ELECTRONIC COMPUTERS /IN GERMAN/

THE USE OF AN ELECTRONIC COMPUTER TO CALCULATE SLOPE STABILITY IS DESCRIBED, TAKING THE MAHABAD EMBANKMENT TYPE DAM IN IRAN AS AN EXAMPLE. INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE USE OF THE COMPUTER ARE GIVEN, WITH REFERENCE TO THE BISHOP METHOD OF CALCULATING CIRCULAR SLIDING SURFACES, AND TAKING ACCOUNT OF THE PORE PRESSURE, THE OUTER HYDROSTATIC PRESSURE, AND POSSIBLE MASS FORCES. NETWORK PLANNING IS USED TO SURVEY THE INDIVIDUAL ACTIVITIES. IN THE CASE CONSIDERED, THE COMPUTER NEEDED FIVE MINUTES TO SOLVE AND POINT OUT SOLUTIONS FOR THREE DIFFERENT WATER LEVELS, THREE SEISMIC COEFFICIENTS AND A TOTAL OF 78 TESTED SLIDING SURFACES.
