NOMOGRAPHS FOR CALCULATING THE OVERALL STABILITY OF EMBANKMENTS BUILT ON SLOPING GROUND (IN FRENCH)

THE NOMOGRAPHS GIVEN ARE INTENDED FOR CALCULATING IN THE PLANNING STAGE THE OVERALL STABILITY OF EMBANKMENTS BUILT ON SLOPES CONSISTING OF HOMOGENEOUS SOIL AND SUBJECT TO A HYDRAULIC FLOW PARALLEL TO THE LINE OF GREATEST SLOPE. THE POTENTIAL FAILURE SURFACE IS A PLANE PARALLEL TO THE NATURAL GROUND. THE COEFFICIENT OF SAFETY IS EXPRESSED AS LINEAR MECHANICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF THE FOUNDATION SOIL AND DIMENSIONLESS COEFFICIENTS WHICH ARE A FUNCTION OF THE GEOMETRIC CHARACTERISTICS OF THE STRUCTURE. THE NOMOGRAPHS GIVE THE VALUES OF THESE COEFFICIENTS FOR THE FOLLOWING CASES: LONG TERM STABILITY OF NATURAL SLOPE, LONG AND SHORT TERM STABILITY OF A TRAPEZOIDAL EMBANKMENT, AND SHORT AND LONG TERM STABILITY OF TRIANGULAR EMBANKMENT. /LCPC/RRL/
