NOMOGRAPHS FOR CALCULATING THE STABILITY OF EMBANKMENTS ON SOFT SOILS /IN FRENCH/

THE SLOPE UNDER STUDY IS CHARACTERIZED BY ITS HEIGHT AND GRADIENT, THE MATERIAL BY ITS SPECIFIC GRAVITY, INTERNAL FRICTION ANGLE AND COHESION, THE SUBGRADE BY ITS THICKNESS AND COHESION VALUE DETERMINED BY SHEARING TEST. CALCULATIONS ARE CARRIED OUT UNDER TOTAL STRESS BY THE BISHOP METHOD ON THE L.C.P.C. CAE 510 COMPUTER. THE NOMOGRAPHS ARE PRESENTED IN FOUR SERIES OF PLATES CORRESPONDING TO THE GRADIENTS 3/2, 2/1, 2.5/1 AND 3/1 RESPECTIVELY. EACH SERIES CORRESPONDS TO THREE VALUES OF THE RATIO BETWEEN THE COHESION OF THE EMBANKMENT MATERIAL AND THAT OF THE SUBGRADE. THE CALCULATION OF THE SAFETY COEFFICIENT AS A FUNCTION OF THE OTHER PARAMETERS IS CARRIED OUT BY READINGS ON THE CURVES AND LINEAR INTERPOLATIONS.
