RADIOISOTOPIC COMBINED MOISTURE-DENSITY METER

THE ELECTRONICS DEPARTMENT OF THE CENTERAL RESEARCH INSTITUTE FOR PHYSICS IN BUDAPEST, HUNGARY HAS DEVELOPED A RADIOISOTOPIC MOISTURE-DENSITY METER. A COMBINED SYSTEM, DEVELOPED FOR THE SIMULTANEOUS DETERMINATION OF HUMIDITY AND DENSITY, CONSISTING OF A DOUBLE SCINTILLATOR AND PULSE SHAPE DISCRIMINATOR WITHIN A SINGLE PROBE IS DESCRIBED. TESTS ON THE METER HAVE BEEN PERFORMED IN MEASUREMENTS CONCERNED WITH SOIL MECHANICS. FOR IMPROVING THE CALIBRATION ACCURACY, HIGH PRECISION DENSITY AND HUMIDITY STANDARDS WOULD BE NEEDED, FOR WHICH CORRECTIONS CAN BE MADE UNDER FIELD CONDITIONS. /AUTHOR/
