In dealing with marine structures, the corrosion engineer must be prepared to evaluate existing and proposed structures. He must consider the alternate solutions available and study the economics and practicability of each. The importance of cathodic protection maintenance cannot be overemphasized. Good structure design will also minimize corrosion. The corrosion engineer should work closely with the structure designer and, after construction, with the operating personnel to insure that the structure will provide the life that the owner expects.
