DISTRIBUTIONS OF EXTREME WINDS OVER OCEANS
Previous work for land areas and the North Atlantic Ocean working toward a universal extreme wind distribution is extended to all of the tropical cyclone areas of the world. Additional data on the universal values of the parameter of the distributions verify and extend previous results. Means of applying these methods to all six tropical cyclone areas are considered. The basis for the extreme value distribution and its parameters is found to be in geometric probability theory. An example is given illustrating the application of the methods to an ocean location.
