DISCUSSION OF SAND DENSIFICATION BY HEAVY VIBRATORY COMPACTOR

TWO CASES ARE PRESENTED OF RELATIVELY DEEP COMPACTION FROM THE SURFACE. IT IS FELT THAT THE POSSIBLE SUPERIORITY SHOULD BE CONSIDERED OF USING THE STATIC CONE PENETRATION TEST WHEN THE STATE OF THE SAND IS EVALUATED BEFORE OR AFTER COMPACTION. HE FEELS THAT NOT ONLY IS THE STATIC CONE PENETRATION TEST MORE DEFINITIVE OF THE EFFECTS OF COMPACTION THAN THE STANDARD PENETRATION TEST, BUT THAT IT IS FASTER, MORE ECONOMICAL AND PROVIDES DATA WHICH ARE OF MORE DIRECT USE IN DESIGN AS WELL.
