EFFECT OF MIXING AND AERATION ON SOIL-CUTBACK MIX DESIGN

AMONG THE VARIOUS FACTORS AFFECTING THE PROPERTIES OF SOIL-CUTBACK MIXES, MIXING AND AERATION ARE KNOWN TO INFLUENCE THE PROPERTIES. VERY LITTLE INFORMATION IS AVAILABLE IN PUBLISHED LITERATURE TO INDICATE THE EFFECTS OF MIXING TEMPERATURE, MIXING PERIOD, AERATION TEMPERATURE AND AERATION PERIOD ON THE PROPERTIES OF SOIL-CUTBACK MIX, SUCH AS STABILITY, WATER ABSORPTION AND SWELLING. IN ORDER TO STUDY THESE, INVESTIGATIONS WERE CARRIED OUT ON FOUR SOILS USING CUTBACK BITUMEN GRADES RC-3, RC-2, MC-3 AND MC-2 AS STABILIZERS. THE RESULTS OF THESE INVESTIGATIONS ARE PRESENTED. /AUTHOR/
