BEHAVIOR OF PILES IN OVERCONSOLIDATED EXPANSIVE SOILS /IN FRENCH/

DETAILS ARE GIVEN OF PILE LOADING AND EXTRACTION TESTS ON CAST-IN-SITU PILES IN OVERCONSOLIDATED SOIL. ULTIMATE SIDE AND END ADHESION LOADS WERE APPLIED DURING THOSE TESTS. SURFACE DEFORMATIONS IN THE VICINITY OF THE PILE SHAFT WERE RECORDED, AND INVESTIGATIONS CARRIED OUT INTO POSSIBLE STRESSES IN THE PILE SHAFT CAUSED BY SOIL EXPANSION DUE TO SWELLING. RELATIONS WERE ESTABLISHED BETWEEN PILE DRIVING, HEAVING OF THE PILES AND STRESS DISTRIBUTION IN THE PILE SHAFT. /RRL/
