A RAPID METHOD OF CONTROLLING THE COMPACTION OF THE SOILS /IN FRENCH/

THE METHOD CAN BE USED FOR CONTROLLING THE COMPACTION OF EMBANKMENTS AND HAS BEEN SUCCESSFULLY UTILIZED DURING THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE A 6 MOTORWAY. IT IS BASED ON THE CORRELATION BETWEEN THE LIQUID LIMIT AND PROCTOR DRY DENSITY. IN-SITU DRY DENSITY IS MEASURED BY MEANS OF THE MEMBRANE DENSITOMETER (LCPC MODEL) WHICH GIVEN THE WET DENSITY; IN-SITU MOISTURE CONTENT IS MEASURED WITH THE AIR PYCNOMETER; THE LIQUID LIMIT IS DETERMINED WITH THE CONE PENETOMETER AND AIR PYCNOMETER. THE METHOD CAN BE USED TO CONTROL THE COMPACTION OF FIVE SOILS SUCH AS CLAY, MARL AND SILT. /LCPC/RRL/
