A NEW APPROACH TO LOAD TESTS

A NEW AND A QUICKER METHOD FOR CONDUCTING A LOAD TEST ON PILES IS DESCRIBED. IT ELIMINATES THE NEED OF A LOAD MAINTAINER OR CONSTANT PUMPING OF THE JACKS TO MAINTAIN THE LOAD AT A PARTICULAR VALUE. THE METHOD INVOLVES THE APPLICATION OF LOAD AND ITS PARTIAL AUTOMATIC RELEASE DUE TO THE CONSEQUENT SETTLEMENT OF THE GROUND. A STATE OF EQUILIBRIUM IS ACHIEVED BETWEEN THE LOAD AND SUBSEQUENT SETTLEMENT AND THE ULTIMATE LOAD IS OBTAINED WITH FAIR ACCURACY FROM THE LOAD SETTLEMENT CURVE. /RRL/A/
