SOIL COMPACTION BY PNEUMATIC-TIRED ROLLERS/IN RUSSIAN/

THE SPECIFIC ENERGY OF ROLLER COMPACTION, AVERAGE CONTACT PRESSURE UNDER A TIRE, AND SHAPE OF CONTACT IMPRINT LEFT BY A TIRE ARE STUDIED. THE STUDY SHOWED THAT THEORETICAL FORMULAS FOR CALCULATING SPECIFIC COMPACTION ENERGY CAN BE USED IN PRACTICE FOR ANALYZING THE WORK DONE BY ROLLERS, AND DETERMINING THE NUMBER OF PASSES NEEDED AND CORRESPONDING DEGREE OF COMPACTION OF A GIVEN SOIL. AN IMPROVED FORMULA IS PRESENTED FOR DETERMINING THE MEAN CONTACT PRESSURE; THE TERMS OF THE EQUATION REPRESENT THE AIR PRESSURE IN THE TIRE, TIRE STIFFNESS (BETWEEN 0.1 AND 0.7) MEAN CONTACT PRESSURE, AND LOAD APPLIED ON THE TIRE. SOIL COMPACTION MUST BE CARRIED OUT WITH PNEUMATIC-TIRED ROLLERS UNDER MAXIMUM LOAD. /LCPC/RRL/
