DEEP COMPACTION OF LOESS (IN RUSSIAN)

A LOESS MASS, IN WHICH THE FOUNDATIONS OF HIGH-VOLTAGE LINE PYLONS WERE TO BE BUILT, WAS SUBJECTED TO COMPACTION BY VIBRATION. AFTER THE TREATMENT, THE SETTLEMENT OF THE LAYER WAS APPROXIMATELY 10 PER CENT. THE VIBRATOR HAS AN OUTPUT OF 600-700 CU. IN. PER HOUR. DEEP COMPACTION IMPROVES THE GEOTECHNICAL PROPERTIES OF THIS TYPE OF SOIL, COMPACTION INCREASES AND ANY TENDENCY TO SUDDEN SETTLEMENTS DISAPPEARS. COMPARED WITH THE METHOD WHICH CONSISTS IN SATURATING LOESS SOIL TO OBTAIN SETTLEMENT, VIBRATOR- JETTING DEEP COMPACTION USES 40 PER CENT LESS WATER. /LCPC/RRL/
