SLOPE STABILITY IN HYDRAULIC FILL STRUCTURES

THIS PAPER DESCRIBES METHODS BY WHICH THE STABILITY OF HYDRAULIC FILL STRUCTURES CAN BE ESTIMATED ON THE BASIS OF PLANE SLIDING SURFACES. THE FOLLOWING EXAMPLES ENCOUNTERED IN PRACTICE ARE DISCUSSED: (1) WHEN THERE ARE NO SEEPAGE FORCES BECAUSE OF A LOW PHREATIC LINE IN THE SIDE FILL, (2) WHEN THE SLOPE IS SUBJECTED TO THE ACTION OF SEISMIC FORCES, AND (3) WHEN SEEPAGE AND SEISMIC FORCES ACT TOGETHER. SOLUTIONS FOR THE ABOVE ARE GIVEN IN EITHER AN ANALYTICAL OR A GRAPHICO-ANALYTICAL FORM. CHARTS HAVE BEEN PREPARED FOR THE RAPID COMPUTATION OF SLOPE STABILITY. /LCPC/RRL/A/
