THE ECONOMIC AND PHYSICAL FEASIBILITY OF SOIL-CEMENT DAMS

THE ECONOMIC ADVANTAGES OF A SOIL-CEMENT DAM ARE OUTLINED AND THE PHYSICAL DIFFICULTIES ARE DISCUSSED. DETAILS ARE GIVEN OF A SERIES OF TRIAXIAL CELL TESTS CARRIED OUT ON A NIGERIAN SOIL STABILIZED WITH VARIOUS PERCENTAGES OF CEMENT AND TESTED AT VARIOUS AGES. THE TESTS WERE CARRIED OUT, DRAINED AND UNDRAINED, AND PORE-PRESSURE MEASUREMENTS ARE COMPARED WITH THOSE OF THE UNTREATED SOIL. THE RESULTS SUGGEST USING SOIL CEMENT FOR DAM CONSTRUCTION. /LCPC/RRL/A/
