INTERACTION OF PILES IN A FOUNDATION CONSISTING OF ONE ROW OF PILES AND IN A GROUP OF PILES

DIFFERENCES ARE STRESSED BETWEEN THE BEHAVIOR OF AN ISOLATED PILE, AND OF THE SAME PILE TAKEN AS PART OF A GROUP. (UNDER EQUAL LOAD-PER UNIT OF AREA THE PENETRATION IS GREATER AND THE LOAD LIMIT LOWER IN THE CASE OF THE GROUP). RESULTS ARE GIVEN OF A SERIES OF TESTS CARRIED OUT ON GROUPS OF TWO TO FOUR PILES, 5 TO 6 M LONG AND 25 TO 30 CM. THICK, IN CLAY OR MEDIUM SAND. EMPHASIS IS LAID ON THE RELATIVE IMPORTANCE OF LATERAL FRICTION AND STRESS OF THE POINT. A METHOD OF CALCULATION IS PROPOSED. /RRL/LCPC/
