A BRIEF DESCRIPTION IS GIVEN OF STABILIZING A MIXTURE OF GRAVEL AND INORGANIC CLAY OF HIGH PLASTICITY. ORGANIC MATTER HAS 4% PH VALUES OF 6 TO 7.5. SITE CROSSED OLD PASTURE FIELDS AND SUBSOIL WAS HEAVY WITH NITRATES SO A DRESSING OF PERMANGANATE OF POTASH WAS FIRST GIVEN. SOIL WAS STABILIZED WITH 8% PORTLAND CEMENT AND 2% CALCIUM CHLORIDE APPLIED PARTLY IN SOLUTION AND PARTLY IN POWDER FORM.
