A LABORATORY INVESTIGATION INTO THE EFFECT OF ELAPSED TIME AFTER MIXING ON THE COMPACTION AND STRENGTH OF SOIL-CEMENT

THE INVESTIGATION SHOWED THAT THE DENSITIES AND COMPRESSIVE STRENGTHS OF CEMENT STABILIZED GRAVEL AND CLAY SOILS WERE REDUCED BY INCREASING THE DELAY BETWEEN THE TIME OF MIXING AND COMPACTION. WITH A CEMENT-STABILIZED SAND, THIS DELAY CAUSED LITTLE REDUCTION IN DENSITY AND ONLY SLIGHT REDUCTIONS IN STRENGTH. THE STUDY ALSO SHOWED THAT THE REDUCTION IN DENSITY AND STRENGTH DUE TO DELAY BETWEEN MIXING AND COMPACTION CAN BE MIMIMIZED BY INCREASING THE COMPACTIVE EFFORT TO COMPENSATE FOR THE LAPSE OF TIME.
