FINITE-ELEMENT ANALYSIS OF SEEPAGE THROUGH DAMS

A GENERAL METHOD OF SEEPAGE ANALYSIS USING THE FINITE- ELEMENT METHOD IS DEVELOPED FOR USE ON THE DIGITAL COMPUTER. SEEPAGE THROUGH DAMS AND AROUND A DOUBLE WALL COFFERDAM NEAR THE FACE OF A SLOPE IS CONSIDERED. THE SEEPAGE REGION MAY BE NONHOMOGENEOUS AND NONUNIFORMLY ANISOTROPIC. A METHOD OF LOCATING THE TOP FLOW LINE OR SEEPAGE LINE WITHIN SPECIFIED LIMITS OF ACCURACY IS PRESENTED. SOLUTION OF ANY SEEPAGE PROBLEM IS REDUCED TO A STANDARD SIMPLE ROUTINE REQUIRING NEGLIGIBLE ENGINEERING TIME. /ASCE/
